A Kartiki gonsalves film
THE ELEPHANT WHISPERERS
‘The Elephant Whisperers’ is an Academy Award winning documentary which follows an indigenous couple as they fall in love with Raghu, an orphaned elephant given into their care, and tirelessly work to ensure his recovery & survival. The film highlights the beauty of the wild spaces in South India and the people and animals who share this space. Viewers learn to love Raghu as they come to know his many emotions and needs. They see him acting very much like a human child, by turns playful, angry, frustrated, loving, demanding and always maturing and growing. Boman and Bellie provide the basic care and the love and social interactions that Raghu craves. Viewers can easily empathize with the couple as they raise their oversize son. Coming to understand Boman and Bellie, viewers also learn of their community of tribal forest dwellers who have been living with elephants for centuries. The film looks at ways that man and elephant can continue to live together in harmony.
